Becoming a Member
There are several ways by which prospective members can join the company, initially
as a Freeman and then as a Liveryman:
They can be introduced by an existing member of the company, supported by a member
of the Company’s Court
or
They can be introduced to membership of the company by having completed an approved
apprenticeship or training and worked in the stone industry for at least five
years.
Once they are proposed for membership, there is an interview process after which successful applicants will be asked to pay a one off joining fee (known as a "fine") and make an annual payment (known as "quarterage").
Members are also expected to make annual donations to the Company’s charities,
which support the craft of stonemasonry.
