Supporting Stone Buildings & The Environment
The principal objective of the charity is to promote any charitable purpose,
which will:
- Encourage the exercise and maintain the standards of the craft of stonemasonry
- Preserve and improve the craft of stonemasonry
- Foster, promote and increase the interest of the public in the craft of stonemasonry and in the use of stone in the built environment
The Charity supports the provision of financial assistance for Apprentices and
trainees. See Support for Apprentices and Trainees.
The Masons Company Craft Fund is prepared to consider any applicant wishing to enrol in an approved training course in the craft of stonemasonry, either full time or part time if supported by an employer.
The Charity also supports The Natural Stone Craft Awards.
In recent years the Company has also provided or helped with the provision or
restoration of a number of stone objects in the City of London. These include:-
- the restoration of the Albert memorial.
- a stone bench in Guildhall Yard, which was donated to mark the 800th anniversary of the Mayoralty in 1989,
- a stone Tablet in St. Paul's Cathedral to commemorate the Surveyors to the Fabric of the Cathedral in 2000
- the return of Temple Bar to its rightful place as a gateway in the City of London.
The trustees consider only those applications, which have a very close relevance
to stone or stonemasonry.
